Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion at Valley Rock Gym

Creating an inclusive, supportive and safe space for everyone to move and climb is a core part of our mission at the Valley Rock gym. We strive to coordinate, center and drive JEDI (justice, equity, diversity, inclusion) efforts within the Valley Rock Gym and our wider community, and to develop processes of accountability and responsibility. We hope to use the VRG platform and resources to effectively contribute to racial and social justice work. Here’s the latest on what we are doing to promote justice, equity, diversity and inclusion in our gym.

Scholarship program:

While we aim to offer affordable pricing, that also allows us to keep our lights on and pay our amazing team fairly, we recognize that our pricing is still out of reach for many. Hence, we are motivated to figure out other ways to lower the financial barriers of entry. Our scholarship program helps provide full and partial scholarships for youth in our community for summer camps, youth programs and climbing team.

Queer Climb Night: Every 1st Friday

Come connect, socialize, laugh, learn and try hard with other queer members of our community! If you identify as LGBTQ2S+, this night is for you! Event is held every 1st Friday from 7-10 pm. The $5 event pass includes free shoe rentals. The night includes an intro to bouldering class for those who are new to climbing, a raffle and of course lots of climbing!

Women's Climb Night! Every 2nd Thursday

Support, empowerment, laughter, community and strong ass ladies! This night is open to anyone who identifies as woman, womxn, non-binary and trans. Event is held every 2nd Thursday from 7-10 pm. The $5 event pass includes free shoe rentals.

The night includes an intro to bouldering class for those who are new to climbing, a raffle and of course lots of climbing!

BIPOC Climb Night: Every 2nd and 4th Wednesday

Corvallis Climbers of Color and the Valley Rock Gym are joining forces to have twice monthly BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) climb nights at VRG. This night is for all people who identify as BIPOC, from the experienced climber to those who’ve never climbed before. The goal of these climb nights is to meet new friends, show up for each other, learn new things, and lift each other up in an inclusive and supportive environment.

The first night is our BIPOC Meet Up and will take place every 2nd Wednesday from 7-10. This event is held during normal operating hours and after introductions, other community members and allies are encouraged to climb, engage in dialogue and contribute to the creation of a safe and welcoming space!

Every 4th Wednesday from 7-10pm, Corvallis Climbers of Color hosts a private event for the BIPOC community. This is the CCOC Affinity Climb Night and is for those who are affiliated with Corvallis Climbers of Color. The gym closes at 7pm for this private event.

The $5 event pass includes free shoe rentals. The night includes an intro to bouldering class for those who are new to climbing, a raffle and of course lots of climbing!

Family Climb Night Every 3rd Friday

Every 3rd Friday we offer a family climb night. If you come anytime from 5-8pm, passes will be 50% off for families!

Most family climb nights will be unstructured and mainly opportunity for families to climb together at a reduced rate.

However, some family climb nights will be more structured with a theme, raffle, movie night etc.
