Climbing Club is a welcoming, inclusive program for climbers ages 12 and up who want to climb, build skills, and connect with others in a supportive environment. This club offers a flexible, low-pressure space where athletes can climb regularly, be social, and participate in loosely structured practices guided by experienced, encouraging coaches.

Athletes will build foundational climbing skills while developing confidence both on and off the wall. Practices emphasize personal growth and steady progress, allowing climbers to move at their own pace while receiving thoughtful instruction and feedback.

Athletes are expected to arrive ready to work hard, try new things, and stay engaged. Participants should be open to feedback, supportive of their teammates, and respectful of coaches, fellow climbers, and the broader climbing community. The environment is collaborative and positive, prioritizing effort, learning, and personal development over comparison or results.

At Valley Rock Gym, we are passionate about sharing the lifelong benefits of climbing with kids of all ages. Climbing is more than just a sport—it fosters growth, resilience, and a strong sense of community. Here are six key benefits that make climbing a valuable lifelong pursuit:

  1. Active Lifestyle – Encourages lifelong movement, healthy habits, and a love for physical activity.
  2. Physical Development – Enhances coordination, strength, flexibility, fitness, and spatial awareness.
  3. Mental Growth – Builds problem-solving skills, focus, determination, and concentration.
  4. Emotional Resilience – Develops confidence, fear management, sportsmanship, and the ability to navigate success and failure.
  5. Skill Development – Teaches climbing movement fundamentals, equipment usage, goal setting, visualization, and training principles.
  6. Community & Connection – Fosters friendships, teamwork, communication, and a sense of belonging.

Our Little Monkeys Program operates with a 3:1 ratio. All other programs have a 4:1 participant to instructor ratio. We are committed to keeping class sizes smaller so climbers get more climbing time and more specialized instruction. VRG instructors receive quarterly training keeping them up to date on both hard and soft skills in the climbing world.

  •  A water bottle
  • If your child has their own climbing gear, they are welcome to use it. Otherwise we provide all necessary equipment during instruction.
  • A willingness to participate, learn and have fun!

Electronics (iPods, Cell Phone, iPads, hand held games, etc) should be left at home. Climbing can provide an opportunity for kids and youth to take a break from electronic distractions, please help our instructors find success by keeping these items at home.

 Drop off:

  • Youth Instructors will be ready to greet participants at the starting program time.
  • Parents will need to check in their child in the check in/check out binder by signing with their initials and the date/time.
  • After Youth Instructors help outfit their climbers with the correct shoes, they will head to one of the youth climbing rooms to begin a warm up.

Pick up:

  • At the end of the program, climbers will return their borrowed gear to the front desk.
  • Before heading home, a parent or guardian will have to check out their child in the check in/check out binder.
  • This is the best time to check in with your instructors if you have any comments, questions or concerns.

Parents can authorize unchaperoned drop offs and/or pick ups. Please send an email to    sahalie@valleyrockgym.com  to help document this arrangement.

Please carefully consider your schedule when signing up for a VRG seasonal program. Our 8 week curriculum is well organized and each class builds on the previous class. Your climber will learn and enjoy the experience more if they attend each week.

Due to the volume of participants and programs, we do not offer refunds or make up days for any missed classes. We do however provide the opportunity for you to come into the gym with your climber on your own time if they miss a class. You must email sahalie@valleyrockgym.com    to coordinate this.

We understand that injuries and medical emergencies are unpredictable and in the event that your child must miss a practice(s) due to an injury or emergency we will evaluate how to proceed on a case by case basis. If your child has an injury or medical emergency and is unable to participate please contact the Youth Program Manager.
